Identity Management: Concepts and Applications
This presentation was given on February 1, 2007 at the West Michigan Novell Users Group “Big EveNt” in Grand Rapids, MI. Titled “Identity Management: Concepts and Applications”; the presentation was targeted to individuals looking to deploy identity management into their organizations. The session explores the basic business justifications of such a project and the discusses the fundamental concepts of any identity management solution. The presentation is appropriate for discussing various vendors' identity management solution, not just Novell’s.
Identity Management brings with it a number of advantages to the enterprise, including nearly instant user account provisioning / de-provisioning, workflow automation, delegated administration, and enhanced password polices and synchronization across multiple connected systems.
C/D/H’s experience in deploying Identity Management solutions is highlighted in a number of case studies involving health care, insurance, finance, and university settings. Some of the presentation focused on explaining the differences between password synchronization and single or reduced sign-on as this is an often confusing point.
C/D/H briefly describes some of the other vendors in the Identity Management space including Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, and Sun. The presentation ends with a high-level architectural review of several recent C/D/H deployments.
